Harry Potter Novel Series,

 


Colombo International Bookfair is being held these days, So I thought to write about the book series I loved. Harry Potter is a series of fantasy novels written by JK Rowling and that series mainly concerns Harry’s struggle against Lord Voldemort. The fictional character of Harry Potter, a boy wizard was created by this British author. His coming-of-age exploits were the subject of seven enormously novels (1997-2007) These seven novels were adapted into eight films (2001-2011). And other major characters in the Harry Potter series are his friends, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry which has four houses such as Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone-

That first novel of Harry Potter series follows that Harry is a young wizard who discovers his magical heritage and ability on his eleventh birthday. Harry makes many close friends and very few numbers of enemies in his first year in Hogwarts. Harry has to face an attempted comeback by the dark wizard Lord Voldemort who killed Harry’s parents. However, Voldemort failed to kill Harry. In that time, Harry was able to survive because of his mother’s love and affection. That first book was published on 26th of June 1997 in the United Kingdom by Bloomsbury under the title of Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone.    


     


Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets-

That book was published on 2nd of July 1998 and it allows Harry’s second year in Hogwarts. During which a series of messages on walls of the school’s corridors warns that the “chamber of secrets” has been opened and that the “heir of Slytherin” would kill a pupil who is not from a magical family (muggles).  These threats are found after attacks that leave residents of school petrified.   


     


Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban-

           Bloomsbury published the third book under the title Harry Potter and Prisoner of  Azkaban on 08th July 1999. This allows Harry’s third year and Harry Potter investigates Sirius Black, an escaped prisoner from Azkaban.





   


Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire-

This book published on 8th of July 2000 is about Harry’s fourth year in Hogwarts Wizarding school and Harry is unwillingly entered as a participant in the Triwizard tournament. In this competition, one from each participating school (Beauxbatons Academy of Magic (France), Durmstrang Institute (Northern Europe) and Hogwarts) should complete three tasks in order to win the Triwizard Cup.

 




       


Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix-

This was Published in 21st of July 2003 and in this book Professor Dumbledore who is the principal of wizarding school re-activates the secret society against Voldemort called the order of the phoenix. Magical ministry appoints Dolores Umbridge (Potterhead hates Umbridge more than Voldemort) as high Inquisitor of Hogwarts and the new Defence against dark arts teacher.

     




     


Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince-

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a Fantasy novel written by J.K Rowling and published on 16th of July 2005 the sixth and penultimate novel in the Harry Potter series. Set during  Harry Potter's sixth year, the novel explores the past of Harry's nemesis, Voldemort, and Harry's preparations for the final battle against Voldemort alongside his headmaster Dumbledore.


    


 Harry Potter and Deathly hallows-

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is written by J.K Rowling and it was released on 21st July 2007 by Bloomsbury Publishing. It is the seventh and final novel of the Harry Potter Series. The novel chronicles the events directly following Harry Potter And the half-blood prince book(2005) and the final confrontation between Harry Potter and the Voldemort. This book won the Colorado blue spruce Book award in 2008
